The S260 Coal Gun outdoor boiler is ideal for people searching to cut high heating bills! Coal guns are efficient and will last decades. In most cases, they pay for themselves in around 3 years.
This is the most hands-free coal boiler on the market. The massive hopper holds almost 3,500 lbs of hard coal and the completely automatic feed and ash dump system means minimal upkeep.
This can offer you up to 20 days of burn time! *depending on use
The Coal Gun utilizes anthracite coal which is primarily mined in Pennsylvania and can supply heat for nearly 7,500 sqft and domestic hot water all for about 70% less cost than electric and nearly 50% less cost than traditional oil or gas systems.
The outdoor housing can complement any color of the exterior of your home or outbuilding. Call today to find out more!
Each AHS Coal Gun is made from premium materials and by skilled, devoted experts. Each unit is tested rigorously before it leaves our factory to make sure it is in compliance with our standards of quality. In fact, we guarantee you that our product is devoid of defects in materials and workmanship*. Every AHS Coal Gun comes fully equipped will all controls required for operation and safety. Standard equipment includes induction and grate motors; an insulated boiler jacket; Thermo ash-monitoring control; high-limit, operating limit, and dump limit aquastats; and pressure relief valve.
Our Coal Gun boilers are one of the longest-lasting heating units The AHS dedication to high standards results in a long boiler life (some reported at 30 years and more) and years of trouble-free functioning. This all boils down to two things, our Coal Gun will save you both time and money in your heating application.
How It Functions…
Coal Guns use pea-sized anthracite coal. The coal is loaded into the hopper with a tractor or off the back of your pickup truck. The coal flows into the coal pot where the fire is started. With a draft fan, the air is pulled through the fire allowing the coal to burn completely. The hot exhaust gas enters our special Swirl Chamber heat exchanger. The Swirl Chamber utilizes the fly ash caught in the exhaust to scrub the heat exchanger walls as it swirls the hot exhaust and ash around. This pulls the heat out of the exhaust and keeps the heat exchanger clean all season. The cool exhaust and fly ash enter the internal cyclone, where every coal ash is taken out before leaving the unit. Anthracite coal does not cause creosote or emit any smoke!
The Consumption of Fuel…
Factors that can affect the quantity of fuel used include the building construction, the weather, and the type of installation. The AHS Coal Gun will greatly lessen your yearly heating costs as it does not use the amount of fuel as compared to other coal units on the market, thanks to its high efficiency.
Thermo Ash-Monitoring Control…
Every Coal Gun® boiler has a Thermo Ash-Monitoring Control which allows full utilization of your fuel. The Thermo Ash-Monitoring Control instantly regulates the temperature of the ash leaving the coal pot and does not remove the ash until complete burning takes place. No alteration from the factory setting is typically required to have the boiler perform at maximum power output all through the burn season (a minimal on-site alteration may be required when the boiler is first installed). With the Thermo Ash-Monitoring controlled grate, it is likely for the fire to remain burning for days during low-use periods.
*Limited Warranty
Alternate Heating Systems boilers and furnaces are guaranteed against damages in materials and workmanship for the given time:
- Boiler Vessel – 20 years
- Grate S130/S260 -Lifetime
- The period of guarantee will be between 30 days to 1 year for all other elements both produced by Alternate Heating Systems and bought from vendors
A copy of the full warranty text, detailing coverage, limitations, warranty claim procedure, and state law rights is available from Alternate Heating Systems.
Wood Siding
Our usual siding is corrugated iron, we provide the “barn siding” look as an option.
ASME Certification
The ASME Certification verifies the steel grade and weld quality of the water jacket. Each ASME Certified water jacket has been compressed to 60 PSI and includes a 30 PSI release valve.
Domestic Coil
This Domestic Coil is capable of a 100° F rise at 5 gallons per minute, 50° water inlet temperature, and 65 PSI water pressure. It is threaded into the boiler’s 4 IN NPT threaded fitting.
Low Water Cutoff
A Low Water Cutoff senses the water level in the boiler’s vessel and will turn the unit off if the water level falls to a dangerous level.

ASME Certification
The ASME Certification guarantees the steel grade and weld quality of the boiler water jacket. Each ASME Certified water jacket has been pressure tested to 60 PSI, and includes a 30 PSI release valve.
Domestic Coil
This Domestic Coil features a 100° F rise at 5 gallons per minute, 50° water inlet temperature and 65 PSI water pressure. It is threaded into a 4 IN NPT threaded fitting provided on the boiler for this purpose.
Low Water Cutoff
A Low Water Cutoff senses the water level in the boiler’s vessel and will shut the unit down if the water level drops to an unsafe level.
