When winter comes, you want to ensure your time indoors is warm and cozy, whether at home or work. Today, many options are available to warm the house or office building, but most are very expensive. While this is true for many available options, you can stay warm all through the winter at much less cost and better value. Commercial wood boilers are some of the oldest ways to keep you warm in the winter.
What is a Commercial Wood Boiler?
A wood boiler is a furnace that uses wood biomass to produce heat and transfer it into water. The heated water can then be used in many different ways. Wood gasification boilers were designed and used a lot during the Second World War due to the shortage/rationing of diesel. Wood Gasification for commercial heating has only taken off in the last 30 to 40 years. The furnace is an excellent investment that can provide clean, affordable heat for a long time. It is efficient in its utilization of fuel and in the distribution and transfer of heat.
How Does a Boiler Work?
The boiler can be installed in the building or outbuilding, wherever is most convenient. Then, the installing company will run piping, usually resilient PEX, to all the areas you want to heat. You can transport the water with insulated pipes to multiple buildings. Wood boilers also need a chimney to carry the exhaust outside.
The boiler burns the wood, and the heat produced is efficiently transferred into the water to be carried throughout the building(s). If needed, we can add multiple units to your system to heat large greenhouses, manufacturing facilities, etc.
We can use overhead fan heaters, in-floor heating, baseboard heaters, forced-hot-air, or a combination of these to heat any space. So if you have an existing water or steam system, we can reuse what is currently there.
You can have different areas (zones) at different temperatures. You then will have a thermostat in each zone to control the pump or valve. Please talk with the installer so he can plumb each separate area correctly.
Once installed, you simply have to add wood two or three times a day, and once a week, you will need to remove the ashes. Unless, of course, you have an automated system.
What Are the Advantages of a Commercial Wood Boiler?
Independence
One of the critical advantages of commercial wood boilers is the independence they give you in terms of energy. You will need to source for the wood. Of course, it is not free, but knowing how much of it there is, or how much you need places control in your hands.
Durability
Commercial wood boilers are durable and reliable. These boilers have a lifespan of at least 30 to 40 years, providing consistent and efficient service. Our units are made with stainless steel to ensure the highest quality.
Clean Energy
Commercial wood boilers use the process of gasification to ensure that they utilize 80-90% of all the energy in the wood. This means that to keep your building warm, you will burn much less wood than older styles of boilers. New commercial boilers can also burn all types of wood and wood waste.
How do You Choose A Commercial Wood Boiler?
An excellent commercial wood boiler should have the following controls:
- Automatic controls
- Long burn times, no smoke.
- Low stack temperature (300-400F)
- Easy and low maintenance
Bottom Line
A commercial boiler does require more attention than an oil or gas boiler; however, a wood boiler is much, much more economical, especially in the long term. You will save money and have excellent heat quality.
